Apprenticeship Incentive Payment - Deadline Approaching

Have you been on the fence about hiring an apprentice? Well, this could be the little nudge that you’ve been waiting for. To encourage more businesses to hire apprentices, the Government has set out an incentive payment of £3,000 per apprentice, but the deadline is soon approaching. So if you haven’t made the most of this opportunity yet, there’s still time, and we are here to help navigate you through the process. 

What is the apprenticeship incentive payment? 

The Government is currently offering all employers an incentive payment of £3,000 for new apprentices of any age who start employment between 1 April 2021 and 30 September 2021.

The incentive payment is in addition to the £1,000 employers are eligible to receive for hiring an

Apprentice who is aged 16 to 18 years old, or an individual between the ages of 19 to 24 who has an education, health and a care plan or who has been in the care of their local authority. 

How can I spend the incentive payment?  

The payment is different from the apprenticeship levy, meaning you can spend it on anything to support your organisation’s costs and do not have to pay it back. So you can spend it on uniforms, your apprentice’s travel or their salary for example. 

How to apply for the apprentice incentive payment

You must apply for each eligible apprentice using your apprenticeship service account to receive the compensation. The deadline for opening your apprenticeship account is 15 May 2022. 

The first payment to you will be after an apprentice has completed their first 90 days of their apprenticeship programme, and the government will pay the balance to you after 365 days.
